Camp Counsellors

PEACE STEAMM Camp Counsellors have moral character, patience and a high level of maturity along with leadership skills as well. Counsellors should be creative, physically fit, in good general health and have some expertise and experience in the activities they'll lead, such as kayaking, canoeing, hiking, Drama, Music and Arts. Counsellors must be positive, energetic and have good team management skills. They are responsible for implementing activities, respecting health and safety protocols, assisting with activity clean up and exhibiting strong organization and initiative skills, to create a safe, fun and rewarding environment. Counselors are responsible for the day-to-day supervision of camp participants, primarily to coordinate, conduct and supervise all recreational activities for children and youth during their stay at the camp. Counsellors report to the Camp Director and Program Coordinator. They will guide campers through STEAMM-related activities centred around the topics of Science, Technology, Environment, Arts, Math and Music. A strong academic foundation in these areas is a huge asset.

Camp Counsellor responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Supervise and support campers aged 7 to 13
  • Assist campers in learning about STEAMM while providing a fun and safe environment
  • Assist the Camp Director and Program Coordinator to ensure a smooth pick-up and drop-off process at the start and end of each day
  • Implement the PEACE Camp curriculum by leading inquiry, discussion and activities with campers of all ages
  • Ensure that all emergency procedures are taught and practiced by all campers and staff
  • Carry out any duties assigned by the Camp Director or Program Coordinator
  • Mentor Volunteer Counsellors
  • Engage parents by providing appropriate and professional feedback
  • Model appropriate behaviour and create positive interactions in all daily routines and program delivery with campers and peers
  • Adhere to the Activity Schedule and Training Manual
  • Adhere to all PEACE Camp policies including “Policy for the Protection of Children”
  • Complete non-paid Health and Safety Training
  • Attend an orientation session prior to the start of camp
 
The successful applicants will demonstrate a dynamic and interesting personality and possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills. This position provides an opportunity to enhance leadership skills and build on the problem solving, creative and technology sections of your personal resume.

Volunteers: Junior, ECE & BEd Practicum Counsellors

Volunteers, Junior & BEd Practicum Counsellors
Volunteer Junior & BEd Counsellors assist Camp staff with general counsellor duties and special events, to organize, facilitate and supervise participants activities and are responsible to know the whereabouts of each camper in their team, at all times.
 
Volunteer responsibilities include:
  • Be onsite from 8:30am – 5:00pm Daily set-up and clean-up;
  • Assist Counsellor with camp activities and ensure the safety of campers.
  • Escort and supervise campers to lunch, snack time and recreation activities.
  • Attend, assist, distribute materials and participate in all camp activities and creative projects.
  • Work cooperatively with fellow Volunteer Counsellors in the completion of assigned duties.
  • Seek assistance and/or advice from Camp Director, when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Observe and promote established rules and regulations.
  • Follow the Volunteer Counsellor Code of Conduct (to be reviewed and agreed upon during pre-camp training)
 
Required Background and Qualifications
  • 15 - 20 years of age
  • Possess strong responsibility and leadership skills.
  • Have ability to work with others and follow directions.
  • Uphold a positive attitude and enjoy working with children ages 7 – 13
  • Demonstrate polite and appropriate behaviour at all times.
  • Be patient, enthusiastic, self-controlled and reliable. 

Camp Administrator & Bookkeeper

PEACE Camp Admin and Bookkeeper will perform general office duties including, but not limited to: data entry, filing, assisting with the registration process, sharing program information, following up with customer concerns and/or incidents, and additional duties as required in support of Camp Office operations.
Essential Required Skills:
Enrolment in or completion of post-secondary degree in Arts and Office Administration an asset;
Previous administrative experience in functional office environment;
Strong time management and organizational skills;
Strong customer service skills;
Strong computer skills in MS Office Suite;

Camp Nurse

The Camp Nurse (RN, RNA, PSW, Nursing Student)  manages the camp health and safety program, provides medical treatment to campers and staff when necessary, administers medication to campers, complies with all required documentation, and acts as health educator for campers and staff. A primary function of this and every other job at PEACE Camp is to ensure that each member, guest and visitor receives the highest caliber of service.​

​Essential Required Skills:
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR or Standard First Aid and CPR a must
  • Previous summer camp experience an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work reliably and independently
